Analysis
Ema Zajmovic - Poker Player
This hand provides another example of a player putting in around 30% of their stack in with a preflop reraise, only to encounter a stubborn opponent who four bets all-in with a marginal hand and dubious hope for a fold. In this case Zajmovic was hoping to shut down a potential resteal, but it’s important to remember they were still eight-handed at this point. Ranges were tighter, players were hoping to ladder, and while King-rag was great to open with on the button, it was not looking good in the face of a sizable three-bet. Zajmovic’s chances at getting the preflop fold were reduced because her opponent had put in such a substantial fraction of his stack already – waiting or folding would have been an easy and attractive choice for Duda had he been marginal. Zajmovic risked giving away the advantages and leverage her big stack held at the full ring, all while attempting to use that leverage in a spot where she didn’t really have much. Duda was looking good to double up until a King came from out of nowhere on the river to ruthlessly eliminate him in 8th for $54,060 CAD. Zajmovic went on to finish in 5th for $102,010 CAD.
